Fragrance Oils

These are actual questions from my dedicated customers, with our expert answers.

Q: What is the difference between fragrance oils and essentials?

A: Essential oils are derived from particular plant parts. (Flower, root, stem, leaf, fruit)

Q: How do I re-scent my potpourri?

A: Place your potpourri into a plastic bag, add a few drops of oil, shake, then leave the bag closed for a day or so to ensure all the botanicals have absorbed the oils. Depending on how strong you want it, you may add more oil.

Q: I recently bought lilac oil at the local market; it didn’t smell the same as your lilac oil. Shouldn’t all lilac smell the same?

A: What are you doing buying someone else’s product? (lol)

Not all manufacturers’ formulas are the same. The fact is that the lilac oil you purchased may have been originally bought from a suppler that called it garden flowers or some other name. They just changed the name and label.

Q: What is the best way to simmer fragrance oils?

A: The best way to simmer oils in diffusers, or electric pots, is to add wax chips, or wax melts, and then add a few drops of your favorite fragrance oil. Using wax helps in preventing splatters, and will enhance the longevity of the oils. Also, by using wax chips, your pot will not run dry and become scorched.

Q: Are essential oils stronger and last longer then fragrance oils?

A: No, in fact essential oils are less stable. However, many of our fragrance oils do include essentials. This is really more of a quality issue.

Q: Do you sell an essential oil called Rain?

A: Someone is deceiving you! Rain can not be an essential oil. Essential oils are made of natural plant material. We do however carry fantastic fragrance oil called rain.

Q: Can fragrance oils be used on the skin?

A: When fragrance oils are diluted with other bases such as, lotion, soap, body wash, or carrier oils they can. Because our fragrance oils are so concentrated, we do not recommended applying directly to the skin, especially if you have sensitive skin. Always do a small test patch on your skin first.

Q: Can fragrance oils be used in candle making

A: Usually fragrance oils can be combined with paraffin. But, there are different grades of paraffin. It is important to test your oils with wax. You made need a different grade of paraffin.

Q: I’ve noticed that some fragrance oils are stronger than others, why is this?

A: Fragrance oils are made up of different blends. When the top, middle, and bottom notes complement each other, this can result in a stronger scent.

Q: Can I use oils to fragrance lotions and other personal care products?

A: Fragrance or essential oils may be added to an unscented lotion, shampoo, or body wash to create your own customize scent. Note: Adding too much oil may cause your base to thin out.

Q: Some of my oils seem to be separating from my lotion base, how do I prevent this?

A: If too much separation occurs, you may add polysorbate 20 to your oil first. Polysorbate 20 is used to make oil water soluble.
